The Site
The site is located along Chapel Road and currently includes the main Temple building (which is locally listed), originally built as the West Ealing Baptist Chapel. The site also includes the recently constructed two-storey (with additional basement level) ancillary building, which is positioned to the south of the main temple building.
The Temple is a well-established Hindu place of worship, cultural centre, and community hub and is of significant importance to Ealing's Tamil Hindu community, which is one of the largest such communities in West London.
Over the years, the Trust has continued to grow and adapt its facilities to better serve its congregation and wider community. In 2022, planning permission was granted for a new ancillary building, approved for use as a ‘meditation centre,’ with the first floor intended for a library, archive, and meeting space to support Temple activities.
However, these restrictions have limited how the space can be used, preventing the Temple from offering the full range of programmes and services its community needs. As a result, the building remains underused.
This application serves to regularise the use of the ancillary building and address concerns raised by the community around intensity of use, traffic, parking and waste management.
